Unlike the rest, Keyser wasn’t a conscript. Not technically, anyway. He had been transferred back when correctional services still had contracts with LARD. He and 600 convicts — many of them carrying as little as 6 months — received early parole on condition that they serve in the first battalion. By the time Keyser was transferred, he’d served one out of six life sentences.
